Cambodian Investor Seeks Justice in Alleged Financial Misconduct by YY Capital Chairman
(Phnom Penh) – An investor and shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has filed formal requests with Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice, seeking intervention in a case involving Yamada Taihei, the company’s Chairman, who is accused of serious financial misconduct and breach of trust.
The complaints allege that Yamada Taihei, a Japanese national, abused his position to manipulate real estate transactions, inflating property prices and misappropriating around USD 4 million for personal gain and that of his associates. He is also accused of creating fictitious business deals and arranging loans exceeding USD 7 million in the names of well-known Japanese companies, deceiving other shareholders.
Additional allegations include document forgery, diversion of large sums through multiple shell companies, and transferring part of the funds abroad to an account under his wife’s name, Ye Jun. Reports also indicate that Yamada Taihei established companies in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, appointing nominees to act as representatives while maintaining full control over all financial operations.
In Cambodia, authorities have already filed at least two criminal cases against Yamada Taihei and his associates, freezing numerous assets and bank accounts. Investigations are also reportedly underway in several other countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, for potential embezzlement, money laundering, and fraud.
The investor’s letters call on Cambodian authorities to conduct thorough and transparent investigations, ensure justice is served, and hold the accused accountable. The letters also express concern over possible interference from influential figures, including some within the judiciary, which could hinder legal proceedings, intimidate witnesses, or compromise evidence.
